All-on-4® in Perth

All-on-4® is a technique we use at Caledonian Dental Care that allows a fixed bridge to be fitted onto 4 dental implants in one day. Generally, a patient would need to have 6 to 10 dental implants in order to replace all missing teeth on one row and sometimes we would even need to add artificial bone.

However, in this procedure only 4 implants are placed at specific angles to provide greater stability. An immediate temporary bridge is then screwed onto the implants so patients can leave the dental clinic with a new set of fixed teeth!

      All-on-4® at Caledonian Dental Care

You will find a variety of treatment options available on the internet for this, but take care and examine each very carefully – the adage ‘if it sounds too cheap it probably is’ comes into play here. There are just so many aspects of this complex form of All-on-4® implant dentistry to consider, from the training of the surgeons and restorative team, to the quality of the lab work and technicians involved and the time allowed to complete the treatment. Most importantly there are few implant systems that have the detailed and extensive research showing that they will last the test of time and chewing. It is always possible to use copy implants and cheaper components, but this is something we will never allow at Caledonian Dental Care.

Our treatment ensures you will be cared for long-term, with ongoing follow-up appointments, ensuring a happy life away from the nightmares of dentures and painful failing teeth.

          Benefits of All-on-4®

There are several benefits to All-on-4® dental implants. These include, being a minimal invasive procedure, less pain and swelling, elimination of ill-fitting dentures and denture adhesives, secure natural looking and feeling teeth, fewer dental visits, immediate results, and cost effective compared to traditional implants.

After the procedure, you can eat, speak and smile with confidence.

            What happens in treatment?

One of the most important parts of the All-on-4® dental implants treatment occurs in the planning stages when you will be taken through all aspects of your treatment. You will have a full assessment, (covering both dental and medical aspects), 3D imaging, model planning and detailed design prior to any All-on-4® treatment being started. You can be assured of our thorough and exemplary service throughout. It is possible to move onto surgery as quickly as you wish to offer you immediate dramatic changes, but rest assured you will never be rushed.

The final long-term bridges that will replace your temporary bridges placed during/after surgery are fitted about 4-6 months later.

              Does dental implant treatment hurt?

You’ll usually be given a local anaesthetic (and a sedative if you choose) so you feel more comfortable during your treatment. Most of our patients recover quickly, but you might experience some discomfort and swelling for several days. Don’t worry, we will provide you with aftercare and if you are worried about anything you can contact us for reassurance and advice.

Should I have dental implants abroad?

We don’t recommend having dental implants in other countries. If you have any problems later on, it can more difficult to get these sorted as you will have to travel back to where you had your treatment (multiple visits are often needed). Also, as there are different implant systems, some may not be compatible with the availability of implant components in other countries.

Are dental implants right for me?

If you are healthy, look after your dental health at home and visit the dentist regularly, you will most likely be suitable for dental implants. Dental implants can be a great solution for people of any age. However, they might not be suitable for everyone.

You might not be suitable for dental implants if:

              • You smoke heavily – smoking can slow down and hinder the healing process
              • You drink alcohol excessively – this can disrupt the healing of your gums
              • You have weak bones – as the implant will need to integrate with the bone in the jawbone
              • You have severe gum disease or tooth decay – these will need to be treated before proceeding with treatment
              • You have a compromised immune system – as it can be more difficult for the body to heal after surgery
              • You suffer from teeth grinding (bruxism) – as this can put excessive pressure on implants, potentially affecting their stability and longevity
              • You have specific medical conditions – this can prevent us from providing you with this treatment
              • You have a complex medical history or are taking certain medications – this can prevent you from having minor surgery.

              What is immediate loading?

Immediate load dental implants, also known as 'teeth in a day' is when a dental implant; a crown, bridge or denture are fitted at the same time. This is as opposed to a delayed loading which is a two-stage process, separated by a period of up to six months.

The main advantage of immediate loading is convenience. The procedure can be done on the same day, which is why it’s sometimes known as a ‘same day smile’. Other advantages are that it’s a quicker procedure, there’s no need to wait for the bone and implant to integrate, and you don’t need to wear a temporary crown, bridge or denture.

However, the main disadvantage with immediate loading is that there’s an increased risk of loss of the implant, due to a failure of the bone integrating sufficiently to the implant. One of our dentists will advise you on which technique will be the most beneficial for you and your dental needs.

The process and length of treatment will be dependent on your individual needs, therefore ‘teeth in a day’ might not be possible for all patients. Sometimes bone loss in the jaw means implants can’t be supported straight away and might require a bone graft.
