Clear aligners are a modern way to straighten teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners. They gently move your teeth into a better position over time, without the look of traditional braces.
You’ll wear a series of custom-made aligners that are designed to gradually move your teeth. Each set is worn for around one to two weeks before moving on to the next one.
There are no wires to tighten or brackets to adjust. Instead, small changes are made with each new aligner. You’ll have regular check-ups so your dentist can monitor your progress.
Traditional fixed braces use brackets and wires, which can be noticeable during treatment. While they are effective, many people prefer a more discreet option.
Clear aligners are almost invisible, so most people won’t notice you’re wearing them. They are also removable, meaning you can take them out to eat, drink and clean your teeth.
Each aligner is custom-made for your teeth and is smooth and comfortable to wear. Because the aligners are removable, it’s easier to maintain good oral hygiene compared to fixed braces.
Once your teeth have been straightened, you may choose to enhance your smile further with treatments such as teeth whitening or minor reshaping, if suitable. These options will always be discussed with you in advance.
At the end of treatment, you’ll be given retainers to help keep your teeth in their new position. Retainers can be removable or fixed (bonded). Fixed retainers are placed discreetly behind the teeth and help reduce the risk of teeth moving over time.
The length of clear aligner treatment varies from person to person and depends on how complex your case is. Some people need only a short course of treatment, while others may need longer.
Your dentist will explain how long your treatment is likely to take and provide a personalised treatment plan during your consultation.

What are clear aligners?
A clear aligner is like a thin gum shield, custom for each patient using a clear thermoplastic material. A succession of aligners is worn, each bringing the teeth a little closer to the desired position. The aligners are virtually invisible and are therefore an attractive option from the standpoint of appearance.
Aligners can be very effective at correcting mild/moderate dental irregularity, however there are several limitations. In the more severe cases, notably those where extractions are required, aligners may lack the necessary control of the teeth to give consistently good results and often lead to less than ideal results. The practice offers both Orthocaps and the Invisalign clear aligner systems.
